The American way of life has changed dramatically because of the World Trade Center attack. Over 5,000 innocent victims were murdered. The very foundations of Americans sense of structure and safety was destroyed by this attack. I believe it was a wake up call that the world truly is not as safe and stable as once thought, especially in America.
As Americans try to go about their daily lives, trying to get back to as near normal as they can, knowing though that regardless of what anyone says, it will not be the same for some time. There will always be that nagging worry. The worry of another attack, a possible biological attack of some kind. That is why I am devoting this column to natural antidotes to biological toxins. Hopefully, this will help to create a small amount of peace of mind that there are some things that can be done to ease our minds.
I've always believed that the two most important things in life that one should practice is be "aware" and be "prepared". If we are not aware of the situations and possibilities around us, by not accepting the reality of what is around us, we truly cannot help ourselves in any way to prepare. By preparing, we are able to create a sense of security within, regaining control to some extent for our safety. Fear is the worse enemy of all and that is exactly what the terrorists wanted us to feel and react to. We cannot let fear become the victor here, because if we do, then the terrorists have truly won.
There are some natural antidotes that can be used to treat biological toxins.
GARLIC
The Garlic Information Center in Britain indicates that deadly ANTHRAX is most susceptible to GARLIC. Garlic is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that even blocks toxin production by germs. [Journal Nutrition, March 2001] In one test, garlic was found to be a more potent antibiotic than penicillin, ampicillin, doxycycline, streptomycin and cephalexin, some of the very same antibiotic drugs used in the treatment of anthrax. Garlic was found to be effective against nine strains of E. coli, Staph and other bugs. [Fitoterapia, Volume 5, 1984] Freshly cut cloves of garlic or garlic powder may be beneficial. The antibiotic activity of one milligram of allicin, the active ingredient in garlic, equals 15 units of penicillin. [Koch and Lawson, Garlic: The Science and Therapeutic Application, 2nd edition, Williams & Wilkins, Baltimore 1996] Garlic capsules that certify their allicin content are preferred and may provide 5-10 milligrams of allicin, which is equivalent to 75-150 units of penicillin. It would be worthwhile to have this natural antidote in your medicine cabinet.
SULFUR-BEARING ANTIOXIDANTS
The anthrax bacterium's toxicity emanates from its ability to kill macrophage cells which are part of the immune
system. Studies have shown that SULFUR-BEARING ANTIOXIDANTS (alpha lipoic acid, N-acetyl cysteine, taurine) and VITAMIN C, which elevate levels of glutathione, a natural antioxidant within the body, counters the toxicity produced by anthrax. [Molecular Medicine, November 1994; Immunopharmacology, January 2000; Applied Environmental Microbiology, May 1979] The above sulphur compounds can be obtained from health food stores and taken in doses ranging from 100-500 mg. Suggestive dosage to stock in your medicine cabinet for a biological reasons is 500 mg.
VITAMIN C
Vitamin C should be the buffered alkaline form (mineral ascorbates) rather than the acidic form (ascorbic acid) and should be combined with bioflavonoids which prolong vitamin C's action in the blood circulation. The powdered form of vitamin C is recommended to achieve optimal dosing. A tablespoon of vitamin C powder (about 10,000 mgs) can be
added to juice. Good products are Twinlab's Super Ascorbate C powder and Alacer's powdered vitamin C. Taking a liquid mineral and trace element supplement like Beres Drops Plus along with Vitamic C is an excellant supplement mixture to help your immune even daily as a maintenance. The american diet is lacking in certain minerals and trace elements. These have an important role for a healthy immune system. MELATONIN
MELATONIN, a sleep-inducing hormone available at most health food stores, has been shown to help prevent lethal toxins from anthrax exposure. [Cell Biology Toxicology, Volume 16, 2000] It could be taken at bedtime in doses ranging from 5-20 mg. Melatonin boosts glutathione levels during sleep. Of additional interest, one of the methods by which MUSTARD GAS works is its ability to bring about cell death by depleting cell levels of glutathione eMedicine Journal, April 9, 2001] So GLUTATHIONE is also an antidote for mustard gas poisoning. Suggested dosage level is 20 mg.
IRON and METAL-BINDING CHELATORS
Virtually all bacteria, viruses and fungi depend upon IRON as a growth factor. [Iron & Your Health, T.F. Emery,
CRC Press, 1991] Iron chelating (removing) drugs and antibiotics (Adriamycin, Vancomycin, others) are effective against pathogens. The plague (Yersinia pestis), botulism, SMALLPOX AND ANTRAX could all be potentially treated with non-prescription METAL-BINDING CHELATORS. For example, iron removal retards the growth of the plague. [Medical Hypotheses, January 1980] The biological activity of the botulinum toxin depends upon iron, and metal chelators may be beneficial. Infection Immunology, October 1989, Toxicon, July, 1997]. Phytic acid (IP6), derived as an extract from RICE BRAN, is the most potent natural iron chelator and has strong antibiotic and antioxidant action. [Free Radical Biology Medicine, Volume 8, 1990; Journal Biological Chemistry, August 25, 1987] IP6 has been found to have similar iron-chelating properties as desferrioxamine, a drug commonly used to kill
germs, tumour cells or to remove undesirable minerals from the body. [Biochemistry Journal, September 15, 1993] IP6 rice bran extract (2000-4000 mg) should be taken in between meals with filtered or bottled water only (no
juice).
OREGANO
The antibacterial, antiseptic action of plant oils has been described in recent medical literature and may be helpful in fighting biological toxins. [Journal Applied Microbiology, Volume 88, 2000] A potent natural antibiotic, more powerful than many prescription antibiotics, is oil of OREGANO. One study showed that oregano completely inhibited the growth of 25 germs such as Staphylococcus aureas, Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. [Journal Food Protection, July 2001] Oregano has been shown to be effective in eradicating intestinal parasites in humans. [Phytotherapy Research, May 2000] WILD OREGANO, which is quite different than the variety on most kitchen spice racks, has over 50 antibacterial compounds. Just one part wild oregano oil in 4000 dilution
sterilizes contaminated water. [London Times, May 8, 2001] Oregano powder from whole leaf oregano is available as OregamaxTM capsules (North American Herb & Spice Co.). A spectacular development in natural antibiotic therapy is the manufacture of oregano powder from 100% pure oregano oil, producing one of the most potent antibiotics known. It has recently become available under the trade name OregacinTM (North American Herb & Spice Co.). It costs about $1 per pill, but this is a far cry from the $16 per pill for Vancomycin, known as most potent prescription antibiotic. Here is an interesting bit of information. In Italy, where Oregano is used in almost every recipe, sinus infections, kidney infections are nearly unheard of.
NERVE GAS ANTITOXINS
Nature also provides nerve gas antitoxins. Nerve gas interrupts the normal transmission of nerve impulses by altering levels of acetycholinesterase, the enzyme that degrades the nerve transmitter acetycholine. HUPERZINE A, a derivative of CHINESE CLUB MOSS, has been suggested as a pre-treatment against nerve gases. [Annals Pharmacology France, January 2000] The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research conducted studies which revealed that huperzine A protects against nerve gas poisoning in a superior manner to physostigmine, a long-standing anti-nerve toxin drug. [Defense Technical Information Centre Review, Volume 2, December 1996] Huperzine A is available as a food supplement at most health food stores. Suggested dosage is 150 mcg per day. Pre-treatment is advised prior to nerve gas exposure.
BETA-GLUCANS
Another supplement called Beta-Glucans, 100 mg a day will increase macrophage cell production. Macrophage cells are the scavengers cells which eat up the debris from exploding virus cells, bacteria and biological exploded cells like anthrax. These cells are also the most easily destroyed by viruses, bacteria and biological agents. CQ-10 helps to increase natural killer cell production and enhance the immune system while also protecting the heart. And don't forget powerfull antioxidants such as Grape Seed Extract. Did you know that Grape Seed Oil has 50 times more anti-oxidants than the tablets?
OTHER DAILY HEALTH CONCERNS
Another important issue is when the body is being attacked by viruses, bacteria or biological agents, the bodies supply and reserves of vitamins, minerals and trace element minerals are drastically destroyed. That is why it is very important to take vitamins, minerals and trace element supplements when one just has a simple cold or the nasty flu.
Liquid vitamins and minerals and trace elements minerals are the best to take because of how they are absorbed and they are actually cheaper compared to pill/tablet forms. Liquid vitamins, minerals and trace element minerals are absorbed nearly 97% by the body through the saliva glands and the stomach lining. My thoughts on the WTC attack and present world condition
The loss of over 5,000 innocent lives at the WTC cannot be justified by any means for any reason. Especially by what I term is a religious fanatic as in Osama Bin Laden. When one studies the history of mankind, you find that nearly all wars, or where another group of people have decided to "eliminate" another group has been over religion. This is the most barbaric and uncivilized example of mankind's so called spritual growth. As a matter of fact, there is no spiritual example or growth of any kind when man "kills" for any reason and especially in the name of God, Allah or whatever namesake they believe in. And for any truly spiritual person regardless of what religion they believe in, Christian, Islam, Buddist or whatever to think they will automatically go to heaven for killing the "infidels" in the name of God is the most insane thing I have ever heard of. Regardless of what religion, we have a loving God. A God that tells us to love thy neighbor and to treat them as we would want to be treated.
Throughout history, sadly, time and time again, there have been men who think they are God's messengers or believe they are Gods themselves. They have used their religious fervor and lies to convince those surrounding them that this is the "true" way, the "true" teachings of God. And each time we have seen such men, such men as Hitler and now Osama Bin Laden, we see nothing buy death. The Al-Qeda and Taliban have killed thousands of their own people because of religious differences. This is nothing more to me than little men simply eliminating those that are different, do not agree with them, and most importantly are in the way of them controlling the masses and setting themselves up as the supreme being here on earth. If God wanted a supreme being here on earth he certainly would not send someone like Osama Bin Laden or Hitler. People in all lands, whether it be American, Israel, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, England must realize one very simple truth. The God is not only within you but in every other human being which is a creation and a part of God. Manking must understand very simply. to kill any human being is killing your God and killing yourself. In some middle eastern countries even today for example, they still cut people's hands off for stealing, and even killing them for sins such as adultry. Are we truly not God's children and if we are, why are doing these sort of things?
In some middle eastern countries, they have schools for orphans for young men that teach them nothing but how to hate Christians and America. They reach them how Christians must die. Are these schools the typical teachings of the true faith of Islam. No, and please understand the true teachings of Islam teach it is wrong to kill at all. What we have in certain Islam countries is like I said. A group of religious fanatics that have twisted their true religious treachings to suit their own purposes, their purpose of becoming a God with power to control the masses.
I call upon the people in all countries, you truly know in your heart what if right and what is wrong. No man should bend that truth within. I call upon mankind everywhere to truly love one another and to treat each other as you would want to be treated. Show honor, respect and love. We are the only ones that will truly stop the Osama Bin Laden's in the world. When mankind realizes this, mankind can truly create a garden of eden. Mankind's true spirit will then rise and all of this religious fervor will stop. For it is this religous ferver that many are religiously misguided because of man's own desires and purposes of wanting to become Gods. Mankind must realize that every human being is actually God and that God lives and dwells in each and every human being on earth. Only until man sees that beauty within each other will the inhumanity of mankind to each other will stop.
Right now, for example, every truly spiritual Godly person on this planet should be concerned about the hundreds of thousands of innocent children, many orphaned because of the wars the last five years in Afganistan. Americans and people worldwide have donated over 1.5 billion for the victims relatives of the WTC attacks and other needs. This was a worthy just cause and people worldwide showed their love. However, thousands of these children in Afganistan will die from starvation and or the elements this coming winter unless we in the rest of the world do something to prevent it. Are these innocent children to blame for the attack? No, they are as innocent as the victims in the WTC attacks. They too have had an act of terroism befall them by the Taliban killing their parents over religious differences. We must show our love to them as well. I'm sorry, an act of human love and kindness towards these children such as this will do more good to promote peace in the world. These children will remember where the food came from. This is what I meant earlier by treating our fellow man as we would want to be treated.
And one last comment, to those in Israel and Palestine. It is time to stop the maddness, to stop the killing. The leaders of these counties, you must set an example, you must listen to the love of God within you, not the hate. It is not time to simply recognize that all of you are God's children. If you truly see this, you will see that to harm one is to harm your God. God is weeping over your actions, stop your hate, show love so he can smile upon you all.
