CRUMBLY APPLE PIE Serves 8 Recipe from DL DEWEY Prep Tiem: 45 minutes Approx. Cooking Time 45 minutes |
CRUST 1 cup bakers fine flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/3 cup chilled grape seed oil 1/4 cup ice water FILLING 7 medium Granny Smith, or any apple thinly sliced 1/2 cup turbino natural sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon saly TOPPING 3/4 cup firmly packed dark brown natural sugar 3/4 cup bakers flour 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/3 cup chilled butter, cut into small pieces |
| Place own rack in lowest position, set to 400 degrees. Prepare crust, mix together flour, salt. Using pastry blender or 2 knives, blend in grape seed oil into flour and corase crumbs form. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time until dough forms. Shape dough into a round disk, wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes. On floured surface, roll dough into a 12 inch circle, place in 9 inch pie pan. Prepare filling, mix all ingredients, spoon into crust. Prepare topping, mixing together sugar, flour, nutmeg. Using pastry blender or 2 knives again, cut butter into the flour until course crumbs. Prinkle apples evenly with this mixture topping. Bake pie until bubbling or about 35 minutes, if oer browning, cover loosely with aluminum foil. |
