My fellow Americans, I believe it is time to "really" close the southern borders and I mean by building a real "wall" and not these "chain link" fences with "black plastic" that are being cut all the time by those crossing illegally.
Here is why. Many of these facts you probably are not aware of.
The nation's undocumented immigrant population surged to 10.3 million last year, spurred largely since 2000 by the arrivals of unauthorized Mexicans in the United States. In 2000, the illegal population was appoximately 8.4 million, it is now 10.3. million.
485,000 is the average annual increase in population since 2000, another words nearly 2 million in just 4 years. And it is not letting up according to the U.S. Border Patrol data. Nearly $7 billion dollars each year, over approximately $585 million a month is being sent by illegal immigrants in the U.S. to their relatives in Mexico. The Mexican government just loves this because they don't have to do a thing to fix their own problems in Mexico. Mexican President Vicente Fox is a joke. Fox allows his country to print a 31-page pamphlet, "Guide for the Mexican Migrant,", showing illegals how to "safely" cross the border without being caught. In addition, Fox wants President Bush to grant "amnesty" the illegan in the U.S. What a joke.
The real problem here is this. The loss of jobs to Americans and a portion of that $585 million a month that could have been earned by Americans, are instead earned by these illegals and sent out of the country to support Mexican President Fox's corrupt government. And the U.S. just sits here and lets it happen.
Nearly $285 million a year is spent on illegal immigrants healthcare in the U.S. who are on Medicaid. This does not include the nearly $140 million in food stamps, or other federal/state welfare subsidies for housing for these people. Pregnant women can't wait to cross the border. Once here and if they have the child in the U.S., the child becomes a U.S. citizen with all the welfare benefits and the mother stays with the child. Each one of these illegal births as I call them in the U.S. costs the U.S. taxpayer according to Emergency Room Costs standards is $1,845.00.
Mexicans by far remain the largest group of undocumented migrants at 5.9 million, or about 57 percent of the March 2005 estimate. Some 2.5 million others, or 24 percent, are from other Latin American countries.
Overall, the U.S. foreign-born population, regardless of legal status, was 35.7 million last year. Those of Mexican descent again comprised the largest group - more than 11 million, or 32 percent.
The most dangerous "gang" in the U.S. is the, Mara Salvatruchas 13 gang, also known as MS-13, ( Mara means posse, and the 13 represents where the gang first started, California.) Where did these gang members come from, Central and South America, especially Salvador, crossing into the U.S. from Mexico.
Police authorities and the FBI ignored this growing gang that has now grown to over 70,000 members in 33 states. As the current rate of "new" members being accepted into the "gangs", MS-13 is expected to grow to over 500,000 in five years. It is also being called the "Mexican Mafia" in the U.S. for they are bringing into their fold illegals from Mexico. This gang is the most violent gang known to date in the U.S. They use machettes most of the time to kill or injure to near death.
Two summers ago, the body of a young woman who had informed against her boyfriend who was a gang member was found on the banks of the Shenandoah River, repeadtly stabbed and her head nearly severed. Last May, gang members in Alexandria, VA, armed with machettes, hacked away at a member of a rival American gang, slicing his fingers off, then this ears, then his toes. To put it bluntly, we do not need these kind of people in America. They have no
understanding of what values are, much less what is right and wrong. They need to be sent back to where they came, or better yet, prevented from entering the country.
In 1990, 88 percent of the illegal immigrant population lived in six states - California, New York, Texas, Illinois, Florida and New Jersey. By 2004, those states accounted for 61 percent of the nation's undocumented population. The top state is California, where nearly one-quarter of the undocumented reside, followed by Texas (14 percent) and Florida (9 percent). Next on the list were New York (7 percent), Arizona (5 percent), Illinois (4 percent), New Jersey (4 percent), and North Carolina (3 percent).
Arizona and North Carolina are two of the fastest-growing states in the nation overall and have metropolitan areas booming with new construction, restaurants and service-oriented businesses - job sectors that often hire undocumented illegal workers. Take Walmart for example who hired contractors for cleaning services in their stores who recently got hit with a $7 million dollar fine for hiring illegal immigrants for $2.00 an hour. Just think how many jobs that took away from U.S. citizens.
The U.S. Border Patrol can't keep up with how many are crossing the border. During the year that ended Sept. 30, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported a record 157,281 immigrants in one year. However, nearly a million people who were arrested trying to sneak into the United States over the Mexican border last year, more than half were caught from January to April, the United States Border Patrol says. However, an estimated 600,000 illegals crossed the border into the U.S. last year without being caught, the largest number in the last four years. The approximately 750 plus mile southern border is simply to vast to monitor and to costly to keep repaired. It is estimated that "fences" that have to be repaired continually are in excess of $10 million a year. In ten years that is $100 million dollars. This does not count the additional 2,500 border patrol agents that have been hired in the last two years which has barely made a dent in the illegal crossings.
Here is what needs to be done.
The U.S. needs to build what I call, "THE WALL". This would be a ten foot high contrete slab by four feet thick with two foot steel python girders sticking outward with razor bared wired on top. On the U.S. site would be a 8 foot deep by 20 foot wide trench. In addition, infra-red sensors that detect human bodies would be placed every 50 feet on top of the wall.
Contractors I've consulted with have estimated that such a wall could be constructed at a cost of approximately $220,000 a mile. For every 100 miles, it would cost approxiamely $22-25 million. The entire border would cost approximately $200-250 million dollars. But this would once and for all solve the border problem. In addition, the number of Border Parol agents could be significantly reduced,
such as "repair" costs of chain link fences being cut all the time would be saved. Estimated savings annually would be in excess of $20 million dollars a year. Costs saved would pay for the wall in ten years. One such rancher in southern Arizona has taken old railroad steel tracks and has started on a project of "building" a steel girder wall aross his property in Arizona because he is tired of finding "dead" Mexicans on his ranch. Interesting how "common sense" solves problems.
Isn't it time in Washington that our elected politicians started using good ole "common sense" as my grandfather use to say.
